VE Day Celebrated Across our Schools

All 14 of our schools across our Trust came together to mark VE Day with a fantastic blend of celebration, remembrance and learning.

Our pupils took part in a variety of creative and respectful activities that helped them understand the significance of the day and celebrate it together.

Here are just a few highlights from across our schools:

At Discovery Academy, Hattersley, pupils began with a special assembly and a two-minute silence before spending the day in red, white and blue taking part in themed activities and enjoying a lively street party lunch. Younger pupils explored wartime artefacts and songs, while older pupils reflected on bravery, created silhouette artwork and discussed how music gave people hope during war. The school also raised money for The Veterans Charity.

At Aldwyn Primary, Audenshaw, the 1940s came to life with pupils learning about WWII and the importance of VE Day, making jam butties in traditional wartime style and coming together for a whole-school picnic on the field.

Poplar Street Primary, Audenshaw enjoyed a brilliant VE Day fun day, with traditional games, outdoor activities and picnic lunches. Pupils came dressed in red, white and blue and took part in a day full of laughter, learning and reflection on the importance of peace and unity.

At Wild Bank Primary, Stalybridge, pupils marked the day with themed learning activities and a big picnic lunch outdoors, all dressed in red, white and blue to show their VE Day spirit.

Pinfold Primary, Hattersley held a moving two-minute silence at the Hyde War Memorial on Werneth Low. Back at school, pupils created bunting and flags, and older pupils helped younger ones prepare a VE Day afternoon tea. A Spitfire flyover made the day truly unforgettable.

At Gamesley Primary, Glossop, the day included a special assembly, themed lunches and a singalong in the playground – a joyful way to bring the school community together.

St Anne’s Primary, Denton celebrated with “Proms in the Playground”, afternoon tea on the lawn, and wartime games – bringing history to life in a fun and memorable way.

We’re incredibly proud of how all our schools embraced the day – from assemblies and picnics to Spitfire flyovers and wartime songs. Across our Trust, VE Day was marked with enthusiasm, creativity and deep respect, and it was wonderful to see pupils learning, reflecting and celebrating together.
