Our Schools’ PE and Sports Round up of the year!

Yew Tree Primary School, Dukinfield

At Yew Tree we always take great pride in our sporting achievements, this includes receiving the Gold School Games Mark Award in 2023!

Every year at Yew Tree we engage in many different competitions including tag rugby, basketball, dodgeball, netball, both boys and girls football and hockey. We travelled to East Cheshire Harriers for the Quadkids event, where two of our children finished in the top 3 overall in Tameside. Straight after this event, we journeyed to Great Academy Ashton for the Rounders final and we were proud to receive a trophy for 3rd place.

A part of our success this year has been our annual school Sports Day, where children engaged in a plethora of sporting activities. We divided the school into ‘houses’ to inject healthy competition and instill the core values of respect, integrity, teamwork, honesty, determination and self-belief.

We look forward to continuing to develop our PE provision and achieving further successes.

Wild Bank Community School, Stalybridge

At Wild Bank we are so proud of the children who have taken part in sports events representing the school this year. It has been a busy year for sports including swimming, athletics, dance and even a trip to the Cliff Training Ground to play in a football tournament.

Our Cheer Team took part in the Tameside competition, they were amazing working together showing team spirit and a fabulous dance routine.

Our Sports Days were a great success as always, the pupils had great fun, watched on and supported by their parents / carers.

We love the way the children come together as a team and how all of the children will try their hardest at anything put in front of them.

We have also celebrated clubs and activities children take part in outside of school.

Poplar Street Primary, Audenshaw

We’ve had a great year for football at Poplar Street, we’ve won two football cups this year, the Heywood and Holmes’ cups. We have had a significant increase in girls playing and attending school football and we also won a free girls’ football team kit! We reached the regional final in athletics and we achieved the Gold School Games Mark.

We had a special visit from Guinness World Record holder Ash Freestyle who showed us his amazing football skills.

Pinfold Primary, Hattersley

We have taken teams from year 2 to year 5 to the Cliff training ground to experience Powerplay tournament which is run by Manchester United.  We have attended dodgeball and basketball competitions and have played friendly matches with other schools in hockey and football. We trained two of our Year 6 girls to become gamechangers and they have done an amazing job promoting and supporting girls football this year.  We have taken teams to Wildcats events and Let Girls Play events and held our own day in school.  We had a fantastic and inspiring assembly with Ash Randall record breaking freestyle footballer.  Our KS1 attended a Disney football event too. There has been Cheshire cricket coaching for years 4, 5 and 6 and Nursery had a mini athletics session.  Our SEND pupils have also attended multi sports and ten pin bowling events. We have had a great range of after school clubs which have been well attended and enjoyed a great sports day event, even the rain didn’t dampen our enjoyment.

Lyndhurst Community School, Dukinfield

Lyndhurst have take part in various different competitions from football to hockey. We successfully got through to the second round of the tag rugby competition. We took the year 5 and 6 football team to tournaments at Manchester United and

Manchester City football clubs. We have attended many festivals e.g. netball and cricket, giving children experiences that wouldn’t necessarily be selected for the team. Also, our year 5 and 6 football team got to the 3rd round of the Tameside football tournament.

Inspire Academy, Ashton under Lyne

The year started strong where our tag rugby team became Tameside champions and our KS1 dance team came 1st in the Tameside urban dance competition. Both the girls and mixed football team made it through to the semi-finals of the Tameside cup whilst our KS1 cheer team came first in Manchester cheer competition. Our netball team came 4th in Tameside, whilst our Y4 team won the Victorious Academies dodgeball competition.

Not only have we entered numerous competitions organised by our Tameside SGO, we have become part of an Ashton cluster. Where we organise our own festivals for all abilities.

At Christmas time we teamed up with Silver Springs to take part in a fun run, Jingle Jog, over in Chadwick Dam. Every child from Y2-Y6 took part in the fun run around the Dam, dressed in Christmas accessories. During National Sports Week, we teamed up with United Sports Coaching, offering glow dodgeball.

Holden Clough, Ashton under Lyne

It has been an incredibly busy and successful year of sport at Holden Clough! This year we have given our children amazing opportunities through a range of festivals, sporting events, trips and intra competitions. As a result of our efforts, we have achieved Gold in the School Games Mark for the 4th year running. Through our partnership with the Manchester United Foundation, we have been able to offer pupils further opportunities through themed days surrounding Mental Health, Gender Stereotypes and Active Maths and Literacy. A standout moment this year has been inviting football freestyler Ash Randall into school to perform, a very successful Sports Week and taking part in all the competitions!

Greenside Primary, Droylsden

Greenside have had a very successful term both in terms of competition and also being able to give children new sporting experiences. We were recent winners of the Tameside tennis Championships and the year 3 and 4 Droylsden Primary Olympics and have had top 3 finishes in the mixed cricket, girls cricket, rounders and netball and Panathalon Ten Pin Bowling. We have also qualified for the year 3 Manchester United tournament and the girls Lancashire Cricket finals. Aside from competition we have also been able to give our children some amazing experiences such as attending a cricket open day at Old Trafford, going to an extreme sports festival at Graystone action sports and competing in the Brownlee Brothers mini triathlon.

Gamesley Primary, Glossop

We have had a fantastic year of sport at Gamesley Primary, we began the year with very successful football teams. Our boys team came 3rd in the Glossop School’s league and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Derbyshire Cup. Our girls team came a close 2nd in their league and also narrowly missed out on the Cup finals. We have had children represent the school in basketball, rugby and dance. Bike-ability wheeled smoothly, helping children to improve their road safety while cycling in the local area. Our pupils have made great waves within their swimming lessons with lots of children reaching the aquatic stage 3.

Discovery Academy, Hattersley

The children at Discovery Academy have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our Trust’s Year 4 dodgeball competition and their inclusivity sporting celebration. Both of the events were great for the children as they had a focus on promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. In terms of competitive sport, this year has been a successful one for both our mixed and girls’ football teams. Proudly, this year we won the Hattersley 13-ESFA qualifier and are looking forward to taking part in the next round in September. This is a great achievement for us – especially considering it is our first time with Year 6 children.

At Discovery, we pride ourselves on the number of sporting clubs that we have available and this year, we’ve had more than ever, this has been reflected in the number of Discovery children who have now joined clubs outside of school to pursue their interests further.

Buckton Vale Primary, Stalybridge

In the Spring term Year 4 finished fourth in the Carrington Cup, this was out of over 100 teams who had competed in the football tournaments, missing out on medals but a superb achievement. They were invited to the Manchester United Carrington ground. Following on from our Year 4 success, our Year 5/6 team were invited to play at Carrington, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that we won the Carrington Cup Trophy!

The Y5/6 swimming team competed at Copley Active against other Tameside schools recently and we came first winning the heats!

Arundale Primary, Hyde

Arundale has experienced a fantastic year, actively participating in numerous sports competitions.

Our Year 5 and 6 Girls and Mixed Team deserve special recognition for reaching the Tameside Cup Finals.

Football has been a prominent area of achievement for us, highlighted by the visit of a talented Football Freestyler who inspired children ranging from nursery to year 6. Additionally, our Sports Ambassadors and Girls Football Game changers have provided support and entertainment to students across the school, showcasing their skills and organizing engaging games, especially during sports week. Interestingly, we marked sports week with an inclusive whole-school dance session, involving the participation of all children.

Aldwyn Primary, Audenshaw

Our pupils have loved having the opportunity to participate in an exciting sports curriculum and have enjoyed our inter school sports competitions, with teams from Year 1 to Year 6 challenging for honours in a range of sports.  Highlights included the boys team winning the Stockport County Football Challenge Cup, and the girls going one better, by not only winning the girls trophy, but they were asked to play at Edgeley Park, the home of Stockport County.

We were thrilled to achieve the School Games Gold Mark for the first time this year!
