Poplar Street Primary celebrates positive Ofsted report
We are very pleased to celebrate a positive Ofsted inspection at Poplar Street Primary School in Audenshaw, where inspectors found that pupils enjoy learning in a school that is “happy, safe and welcoming.”
The school was inspected on 15 and 16 September 2026 and met the expected standard across all areas inspected. Inspectors recognised the progress made since the previous inspection and highlighted the positive developments across the school.
The report praises Poplar Street’s “ambitious and organised carefully” curriculum, which supports pupils from Nursery through to Year 6 to build their knowledge over time. Inspectors also highlighted pupils’ positive attitudes to learning, respectful behaviour and the nurturing environment that helps children feel cared for and supported.
Beyond the classroom, the report recognises the wide range of opportunities available to pupils to develop new interests, take on responsibilities and make a positive contribution to their community.
Inspectors also praised the support available for pupils’ wellbeing, including the work of the school’s pastoral team. In the early years, children were found to feel safe and cared for, make a confident start to their education and become well prepared for the next stage of learning.
Helen Fletcher, Headteacher at Poplar Street Primary, said:
“We are delighted that the report reflects the happy, safe and welcoming school we want Poplar Street to be for every child.
There is so much for us to celebrate, from our ambitious curriculum and the progress we continue to make as a school, to the positive attitudes our pupils show towards their learning and each other.
I am incredibly proud of our pupils and staff, and I would like to thank our children, staff, families, governors and colleagues across our Trust for their continued support, hard work and commitment. Everyone at Poplar Street plays a part in making our school what it is, and it is wonderful to see so many aspects of school life recognised in the report.”
The inspection also recognised the support available to staff through training, professional development and wellbeing initiatives, with inspectors noting that staff value the support they receive and the positive impact it has on the school.
Karen Burns, our Trust CEO, said:
“I am absolutely delighted for Helen and the whole Poplar Street community. This report reflects a school where children are cared for, encouraged to enjoy their learning and given opportunities to grow and develop.
It is wonderful to see the progress being made at Poplar Street recognised and, most importantly, to see the happy and welcoming experience children have at the heart of the report.
My congratulations go to everyone at the school. Helen, the staff, pupils, families and governors should all feel incredibly proud.”
