Celebrating Young Writing Talent Across our Trust

We are celebrating the success of two talented pupils who were selected as finalists in The Lowry’s annual Creative Writing Challenge.

Hibbah from Holden Clough Primary and Elijah from Wild Bank Primary were named among just 20 finalists from more than 1,000 entries submitted by young writers aged 7 to 11 from across the North West.

The Creative Writing Challenge celebrates imagination, creativity and storytelling, providing children with an opportunity to showcase their original work and share their voices with a wider audience.

Hibbah impressed judges with her short story, The Monster, while Elijah’s playscript, What’s in the Bush?, was inspired by a creative writing workshop delivered by The Lowry’s learning team. His work was later brought to life through a class performance, demonstrating both his creativity and talent for storytelling.

The achievements of both pupils reflect the importance our trust places on developing strong literacy, communication and self-expression skills. Across our schools, pupils are encouraged to explore their creativity, grow in confidence and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Significantly, this is the second consecutive year that Holden Clough Primary has celebrated a finalist in the competition, highlighting the school’s ongoing success in nurturing young writers and supporting pupils to achieve their full potential.

Karen Burns, Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We are incredibly proud of Hibbah and Elijah. Their creativity, commitment and confidence have shone throughout this process and being given the opportunity to share their work as finalists in The Lowry’s Creative Writing Challenge is a tremendous achievement. Their success reflects the talent of our pupils and the dedication of our staff in nurturing a love of writing and self-expression across our schools.”

Congratulations to both pupils on this fantastic achievement. Their success is a wonderful example of the creativity, ambition and talent found across our schools and we look forward to seeing what they achieve in the future.
